Ostomy
Relief Ltd. was developed by two
friends: Bea and Shuba.
Bea had an irreversible colostomy three years
ago and was devastated.
Shuba, Bea’s children, and Bea’s daily visiting
nurse did all that they could to help her adjust to
her new circumstance.
Bea simply could not bear with the colostomy and especially the pouch which frequently needed to be emptied and cleansed. Bea was in the hospital for three months—very ill because of extensive reconstructive surgery. Most of the hospital nurses who cared for her dreaded the colostomy pouch change—the emptying, the rinsing, the oftentimes just emptying and not rinsing. The procedure was unpleasant and time-consuming. Bea was depressed, but she refused to accept the daily bouts with the pouch. When she was finally discharged from the hospital, she went on a quest to find a liner that would fit inside the pouch so that she would never again have to rinse and clean it and bear with the prolonged disgusting odor. Shuba went from store to store to find plastic bags to use as inserts and most did not work as liners because the polyethelene was too thick. One day Shuba found a plastic bag which both she and Bea altered to fit the pouch. It worked. She used the altered inserts again and again. Her depression vanished. She was able to go out to the store without fear of having a leak, an accident, an embarrassing odor. She found that she could take airplane trips, go to restaurants, in fact, go anywhere she wanted because she was finally free.
Shuba and Bea wanted to make a disposable liner for other persons with ostomies to use. They did, and they now make it available to anyone who has an ostomy or anyone who assists persons with ostomies including nurses and caregivers. With the development of “Clean ‘n EZ” ostomy pouch disposable liners, Bea is now free to do whatever she wants or to go wherever she wants. She has been on a cruise, flies across the country, goes out to dinner, visits the homes of friends—she does whatever she was able to do before the colostomy surgery. She is not a prisoner in her home. The liner is large enough to hold an unexpected bowel evacuation thus giving enough time for her to get to a private setting--a public restroom in a restaurant, an airport, a friend’s home--to remove, replace, and discard or flush the liner contents in an appropriate receptacle. She is free at last to enjoy her life and both Bea and Shuba want to share their liner with you or with anyone you know who would benefit from using the “Clean ‘n EZ” liner.
